How do I get a moving quote?
The easiest way is to fill out our online quote request form at /request-a-quote. You can also call us directly. We'll gather a few details about your move and provide you with an accurate estimate.
Pricing & Estimates
We price every move fairly and explain every line item before work begins. Here's what to expect.
How is my moving quote calculated?
Your quote is based on several factors: the size of your home or office, the distance of the move, the number of items being moved, any specialty items (pianos, safes, pool tables), and whether you need packing or storage services. We assess all of these before providing a number.
Is my estimate binding?
We provide detailed written estimates. The final cost may vary if the scope of work changes on moving day — for example, if there are significantly more items than originally listed. We communicate any changes transparently before proceeding.
What is included in my quote?
Standard quotes include the moving crew, the moving truck, fuel, and basic liability coverage. Packing materials, specialty item handling, and storage are quoted separately based on your specific needs.
Are there any hidden fees I should know about?
No. We do not charge hidden fees. We review every line item with you upfront. Common additional charges — such as stairs, long carry distances, or extra stops — are disclosed before your move begins.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, check, and major credit cards. Payment terms are discussed at the time of booking so there are no surprises on moving day.
What to Expect on Moving Day
Moving day runs smoothly when everyone knows what to expect. Here are answers to our most common day-of questions.
What time will the crew arrive?
We schedule a confirmed arrival window and will contact you in advance if anything changes. Our crews arrive ready to work — tools, dollies, blankets, and straps are all on the truck.
How long will my move take?
Move duration depends on the size of your home or office, the number of items, distance, and any special handling required. A typical local move for a 2-3 bedroom home takes between 4 and 8 hours. We'll give you a time estimate when we review your quote.
What should I have ready before the crew arrives?
We recommend having all personal items (medications, valuables, important documents) set aside and clearly labeled as "do not move." Boxes should be closed and taped. Clear pathways through the home make the process faster and safer for everyone.
Will the movers disassemble and reassemble furniture?
Yes. Our crew handles standard furniture disassembly and reassembly as part of the move. If you have specialty items that require extra care, let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Is tipping expected?
Tipping is not required but is always appreciated. If your crew did excellent work, a gratuity is a great way to show it. Industry standard is typically $20-$50 per mover depending on the size and complexity of the move.
Specialty Items & Storage
We handle the items other movers won't touch — and we offer secure storage solutions for when timing doesn't line up perfectly.
Can you move a piano?
Yes. Piano moving requires specialized equipment and technique. Our crew is trained and equipped to move upright pianos, grand pianos, and baby grands safely. Let us know you have a piano when you request your quote.
Do you move safes and pool tables?
Yes. Safes and pool tables are among the specialty items we handle regularly. These require custom dollies, protective wrapping, and careful weight management. We assess each job individually to ensure safe transport.
What other specialty items do you move?
In addition to pianos, safes, and pool tables, we move antiques, large artwork, oversized furniture, and other high-value or bulky items. If you're unsure whether we can handle a specific item, call us — we'll let you know.
Do you offer storage services?
Yes. Rick's Moving & Storage offers both short-term and long-term storage solutions. Our storage facilities are secure and climate-appropriate. Storage is a great option when your new location isn't ready or you need to downsize temporarily.
How is my property protected while in storage?
Items in our storage facility are inventoried and stored with care. We use proper padding and stacking techniques to prevent damage. Speak with our team about insurance options for stored items.
