Specialty Item Moving Done Right

Rick's Moving & Storage has safely moved pianos, safes, pool tables, antiques, and more across the Rio Grande Valley and all of Texas since 1991. When the item matters, experience is everything.

Items We Specialize In Moving

Not every item can be loaded onto a truck and hoped for the best. The specialty items below each require dedicated equipment, trained technique, and years of hands-on experience — all of which Rick's brings to every job.

Piano moving

Pianos

Upright, baby grand, and grand pianos require padded piano boards, heavy-duty straps, and stair-climbing dollies. Our team protects keys, legs, and the soundboard throughout every lift and turn.

Safe moving

Safes

Gun safes, fireproof safes, and vault doors weigh hundreds of pounds. We use four-wheel furniture dollies, stair rollers, and precision team lifting to move safes without damaging floors or doorframes.

Pool table moving

Pool Tables

Regulation pool tables must be fully disassembled — felt, slate slabs, and frame — then professionally re-leveled at the destination. Rick's handles the full process from breakdown to re-felting setup.

Antique furniture moving

Antiques & Fine Furniture

Heirloom pieces, antique armoires, and century-old sideboards receive custom furniture pads, corner protectors, and stretch-wrap before any handling begins. Nothing touches a hard surface unwrapped.

Artwork and mirror moving

Artwork & Mirrors

Framed artwork, large mirrors, and sculptures are wrapped in moving blankets and mirror boxes, then secured vertically in the truck to prevent flex damage during transit.

Oversized item moving

Oversized & Unusual Items

Arcade machines, gun cabinets, industrial equipment, and other oversized or irregularly shaped items — if it's heavy, fragile, or awkward, we have the equipment and the experience to move it safely.

Why Specialty Items Demand Trained Movers

Attempting to move a piano, safe, or pool table without proper equipment is one of the most common causes of serious injury and property damage during a move. These items are not just heavy — they are mechanically complex, structurally delicate, or both.

Rick's Moving & Storage has 35 years of hands-on experience handling specialty items across the Rio Grande Valley and all of Texas. We carry licensed and insured coverage, use industry-grade equipment purpose-built for each item type, and assign trained specialty crew members — not general labor — to every specialty job.

The result: your item arrives exactly as it left. No scratched floors. No cracked soundboards. No re-leveling a pool table that was never disassembled correctly.

Specialty Item Moving — Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about moving a piano, safe, or pool table? Here are the answers we hear most often.

  • How is specialty item moving priced?

Specialty item pricing depends on the item type, weight, access conditions (stairs, narrow hallways, elevator), distance, and whether disassembly/reassembly is required. We provide a detailed quote before any work begins — no surprises on moving day.
  • Does my piano or pool table need to be disassembled before the move?

Pool tables must be fully disassembled — including separating the slate slabs — to be moved safely and re-leveled correctly at the destination. Grand pianos require leg removal and lid securing. Upright pianos are typically moved intact on a piano board. We handle all disassembly and reassembly as part of the service.
  • What if doorways or stairwells are too narrow for the item?

Our team assesses access points before the move and uses specialized equipment — including narrow stair-climbing dollies, panel-carry tools, and angle-turn techniques — to navigate tight spaces. In rare cases where an item physically cannot fit, we discuss alternative options with you upfront.
  • Are my high-value specialty items insured during the move?

Yes. Rick's Moving & Storage is fully licensed and insured. We recommend discussing the declared value of high-value items such as antiques, fine art, and safes at the time of your quote so appropriate coverage is confirmed in writing before the move date.
  • Do you move specialty items only locally, or also long distance?

We handle specialty item moves both locally within the Rio Grande Valley and long-distance throughout Texas. If you're moving a piano or safe out of the RGV to another Texas city, Rick's is equipped to handle it end to end.
